The following report appears in the Upton News, 17th November 1917:
Tpr. Harold Denley Killed
As we go to Press, we learn Mr and Mrs F.J. Denley, of Holly Green Farm, Upton-on-Severn, have received the sad news that their youngest son, Tpr. Harold G. Denley, of the Yeomanry, has been killed in action in Palestine. The deceased was educated at Hanley Castle Grammar School, and, prior to joining up on becoming of military age, assisted his father on the farm. The deceased’s brother, who was in South Africa when hostilities began, came to England to join up, and enlisted in the Yeomanry. Mr and Mrs Denley and family will have the sincere sympathy of a very wide circle of friends.
Awarded the British War and Victory medals.
A photograph of Trooper H.G. Denley of Upton can be found in Berrow’s Worcester Journal Supplement, Saturday 24th November 1917, available at Worcestershire Archives.
