The birth of William L. Heeks is registered in the December Quarter 1911 under the Kington Registration District (Herefordshire).

Appears on the Royal Navy casualties list for Worcestershire.

HMS President III was a shore establishment. Based initially in Bristol and then in Windsor, it was the headquarters and accounting base for personnel on Defensively Armed Merchant Ships.

A letter from the Reverend W.L. Gutch, St Peter’s, Cookley, Kidderminster dated 5th May 1950 can be found within war records held at Worcestershire Archives requesting that William L. Heeks, A.B., Royal Navy, be added to the county roll of honour.

William Heeks is remembered on his parent’s gravestone in St Peter’s Churchyard, Cookley.  The inscription reads:

WHO DIED 5TH NOV 1967
AGED 85
AND OF HIS ELDEST SON
WILLIAM LOWE HEEKS
